Burden

I saw this little burro in Mexico carrying loads that seemed too heavy for her. She sometimes groaned under the load she was asked to bear. She, however, wore bright colors as if she celebrated her ability to bear what was given.
In Zen the donkey is a code word for the human will.
Our human will, much like this burro groans under the burden. Although strong and enduring it is too small to climb to the summit. It will try! Sometimes moaning hee haw, hee haw sometimes in celebratory colors.
Zen insists this donkey relinquish the load to the stronger, larger more able horse.
The horse is the inconceivable will, the eternal source that is able to take you to the top of the mystical peak.
